In 2020, the Peel Regional Police (PRP) and Peel Police Service Board (PPSB) approached the OHRC to engage in collaborative work to address systemic racial discrimination and anti-Black racism in policing, which resulted in the launch of the multi-year organizational project called the Human Rights Project.
In 2023, the parties announced 64 initial recommendations to advance their objectives. More recommendations were introduced in 2026, and PRP committed to legally enforceable actions that will help drive meaningful outcomes for Ontarians.
