Under Section 31.6 (2) of the Ontario Human Rights Code, the Ontario Human Rights Commission (OHRC) is required to submit a report on its activities for the previous fiscal period by June 30 of each year, to be tabled in the Legislature. I am pleased to provide you with “Cultivating a Culture of Dignity and Respect: A Shared Responsibility”, the OHRC’s annual report of its activities from April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025.

This report highlights the Commission's approach to fostering a human rights culture in Ontario in various ways, including collaboration and consultation with communities, governments, stakeholders, and partners to develop policies and recommendations that support people and organisations in creating a province where human rights are respected. The OHRC has thought outside the box and built within it, emphasising proactive prevention as a guiding principle in advancing human rights. Education is at the heart of OHRC's efforts to teach, promote, and protect human rights.

The OHRC’s legacy is decades in the making. Last year marked the 60th anniversary of Ontario’s Human Rights Code – the first legislation of its kind in Canada. This report marks some key human rights moments, and the significant role individuals and communities have played in recognizing, protecting, and advancing human rights.
