Policy on preventing discrimination
based on mental health disabilities and addictions

Date: Thursday, November 13, 2014
Time: 1  to 3 p.m.
Place: Conference Room B
Donald Gordon Conference Centre, Queen’s University
421 Union Street, Kingston, Ontario

Organizations operating in Ontario have a legal duty to take steps to prevent and respond to discrimination based on mental health or addictions disabilities. The OHRC’s Policy on preventing discrimination based on mental health disabilities and addictions offers clear, user-friendly guidance to organizations on how to take proactive steps to make sure they maintain environments that respect human rights. It provides best practices for protecting people with mental health disabilities and addictions from discrimination and harassment under the Human Rights Code ground of “disability,” in workplaces, services (like health care or schools), housing and other key areas.

This policy can help:
People with mental health disabilities and addictions
Organizations and advocates
Employers
Service and housing providers
Unions and other vocational associations.
