1. OHRC submission to the Ministry of the Solicitor General on the Equipment and Use of Force Regulation Amendment and implementation of modernized Use of Force Report

   In its submission on proposed government amendments to the Equipment and Use of Force Regulation and implementing a modernized Use of Force Report, the OHRC makes recommendations on reporting requirements; expanding the scope of incidents subject to use of force reporting, the level of force applied in reporting, and including the use of handcuffs; in accordance with leading practices, including additional contextual information; and providing guidance on the analysis required by section 14.7 (4) of the amended regulation. 

2. Ontario Human Rights Commission comment on Canada’s upcoming 24th and 25th Reports to the UN Committee on Elimination of Racial Discrimination

   The OHRC has prepared a submission in response to Canadian Heritage’s request for the views of human rights commissions to inform the Government of Canada as it prepares Canada's combined 24th and 25th periodic report to the United Nations on its implementation of the International Convention on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

3. Letter and submission to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing on proposed regulatory amendments under the Housing Services Act

   I am writing today to provide the Ontario Human Rights Commission’s (OHRC) submission on the government’s Proposed Regulatory Amendments under the Housing Services Act, 2011 – Reg. 367/11. The OHRC is committed to bringing a human rights perspective to government strategies aimed at addressing poverty, homelessness and hunger.

4. OHRC comments on IPC draft privacy guidance on facial recognition for police agencies

   The OHRC has submitted comments on the Information and Privacy Commission’s draft privacy guidance on facial recognition for police agencies.

5. OHRC submission on AODA Postsecondary Education Standards Development Committee’s 2021 initial recommendations report

   The OHRC welcomes the Postsecondary Education Standards Development Committee’s 2021 Initial Recommendations Report under the AODA, and provides additional recommendations.

6. OHRC submission on the K-12 Education Standards Development Committee on its 2021 initial recommendations report

   The OHRC welcomes the K-12 Education Standards Development Committee’s 2021 initial recommendations report under the AODA, and provides additional recommendations.

7. OHRC submission to Ministry of Education consultation on strengthening accountability for school board trustees

   The OHRC welcomes the Ministry of Education’s consultation on strengthening accountability for school board trustees, and is particularly interested in measures to ensure trustees are held accountable if they fail to fulfill their legal obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code (Code).

8. Submission on Ontario’s Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence (AI) Framework

   June 14, 2021 – The OHRC is concerned about the unique implications that artificial intelligence (AI) presents to the human rights of Ontario’s marginalized and vulnerable communities, and has made a submission to Ontario’s public consultation on the Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence Framework.

9. Submission of the Ontario Human Rights Commission to the Ministry of the Solicitor General on the proposed amendments to Regulation 778 under the Ministry of Correctional Services Act

   June 4, 2021 – On April 23, 2021, Ontario’s Ministry of the Solicitor General announced proposed amendments to Regulation 778 under the Ministry of Correctional Services Act, which governs the operation of Ontario’s adult correctional institutions. The Ontario Human Rights Commission welcomes the opportunity to provide this submission, which focuses primarily on the segregation amendments.

10. OHRC submission to the Ministry of Education consultation on the Grade 10 Civics and Citizenship curriculum

    May 21, 2021 – The OHRC strongly recommends that the Grade 10 Civics and Citizenship curriculum include specific learning expectations on the rights and responsibilities set out in Ontario’s Human Rights Code (Code).
