  1. Opening Statement to the Standing Senate Committee on Indigenous Peoples

     

    The Ontario Human Rights Commission (OHRC) was invited to appear before the Standing Senate Committee on Indigenous Peoples on April 19, 2023 to speak to issues related to Indigenous Peoples and the Canadian human rights framework. OHRC Chief Commissioner Patricia DeGuire was permitted a maximum of 5 minutes to deliver an opening statement.

  3. OHRC submission: A Place to Grow and Provincial Policy Statement

    The OHRC calls on MMAH to recognize that planning policy instruments have the potential to affect the housing rights of people who require affordable housing like group homes, seniors' residences, shelters, lodging houses and social housing. The OHRC urges MMAH to expressly identify protecting human rights, including the right to adequate, accessible and affordable housing, as a core element of the new planning policy instrument.

    La CODP invite le MAML à reconnaître que les documents de politique d’aménagement du territoire peuvent avoir des répercussions sur les droits relatifs au logement des personnes ayant besoin d’un logement abordable comme une place dans des foyers de groupe, résidences pour personnes âgées, refuges, maisons de chambres et logements sociaux. La CODP encourage fortement le MAML à indiquer clairement que la protection des droits de la personne, y compris le droit à un logement abordable, adéquat et accessible, est un élément fondamental du nouveau document de politique d’aménagement du territoire.

  5. OHRC launches new three-year strategic plan for belonging in Ontario

    The OHRC has revitalized its strategic plan for 2023–2025. Human Rights First: A plan for belonging in Ontario reflects on placing belonging and intersectionality at the centre of human rights work, with an emphasis on building relationships and partnerships to achieve this. The plan outlines five key priority areas for continuing to protect, promote and advance human rights in Ontario.
