  1. Les appels en cour de la Commission font progresser le droit des droits de la personne (fiche)

    Juin 2006 - Au cours des dix dernières années, la Commission ontarienne des droits de la personne (la « Commission ») a participé à nombreuses causes qui ont reçu une décision d'une cour supérieure : 72 contrôles judiciaires d'une décision, 32 décisions rendues en appel à la Cour divisionnaire, 40 décisions rendues par la Cour d'appel, et 17 décisions rendues par la Cour suprême du Canada. Â compter du 31 mars 2006, la Commission poursuivait 462 affaires au Tribunal, huit affaires devant la Cour divisionnaire, trois au Cour d'appel, et deux devant la Cour suprême du Canada.

    In November 2008, following public town hall meetings with individuals and groups across the province, the OHRC finalized strategic and business plans to guide its work under its new mandate for the following three years. Our aim is to educate, empower and mobilize partners in communities across the province to raise awareness, help identify concerns and implement solutions.

    In a recent decision, the Ontario Human Rights Commission (the “Commission”) decided not to proceed with complaints filed against Maclean’s magazine related to an article “The future belongs to Islam”. The complainants alleged that the content of the magazine and Maclean’s refusal to provide space for a rebuttal violated their human rights.

    Dans une décision récente, la Commission ontarienne des droits de la personne (la « Commission ») a décidé de ne pas donner suite aux plaintes déposées contre le magazine Maclean suite à la publication de l’article « The future belongs to Islam » (l'avenir appartient à l'Islam). Les plaignants ont allégué que le contenu de l’article et le refus de Maclean de fournir l'espace pour une réfutation ont violé leurs droits de la personne.

    Toronto -The Ontario Human Rights Commission has decided not to proceed with complaints filed against Maclean’s magazine related to its publication of an article “The future belongs to Islam.” The complainants alleged that the content of the article and Maclean’s refusal to provide space for a rebuttal violated their human rights. The decision means that the complaints will not be referred to a hearing before the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario.

    2012 - The Ontario Human Rights Code (the Code) provides for equal rights and opportunities, and freedom from discrimination. The Code recognizes the dignity and worth of every person in Ontario. It applies to the areas of employment, housing, facilities and services, contracts, and membership in unions, trade or vocational associations. Under the Code, every person has the right to be free from racial discrimination and harassment.
