   Je vous écris pour conseiller vivement au gouvernement du Canada de revoir sa position s’opposant à l’adoption par l’Assemblée générale des Nations Unies de l’ébauche de la Déclaration sur les droits des peuples autochtones.

2. Opinion editorial "Class of rights"

   October 26, 2007 - The values embodied in human rights laws hold a special place in the minds of Canadians. Canadians believe that tolerance, mutual respect, and diversity are fundamental to the nature and success of this country. Looking at some of the recent debate in Ontario around religious school funding, and the ongoing consultation in Quebec on reasonable accommodation, I believe that this is a time to remember and promote those values. It is certainly not time to turn away from them.

   Le 26 octobre 2007 - Les valeurs consacrées dans les lois protégeant les droits de la personne occupent une place spéciale dans le cœur des Canadiens et Canadiennes, pour lesquels la tolérance, le respect mutuel et la diversité sont des valeurs fondamentales à la nature et au succès de leur pays. Devant le débat qu’a récemment suscité en Ontario la question du financement des écoles religieuses et les consultations continues qui se déroulent au Québec à propos des mesures d’adaptation raisonnables, je pense que le moment est bien choisi pour rappeler ces valeurs. Ce n’est certainement pas le moment de s’en détourner.

4. Human rights policy in Ontario - 2008 edition

   On this 45th anniversary of the Ontario Human Rights Code, I am pleased to present the fourth edition of Human Rights Policy in Ontario, a publication first introduced in 1998. I am also pleased that Carswell, a respected publisher of employment and human rights related material, is our partner in putting together this latest compendium of the Ontario Human Rights Commission’s policies and guidelines.

5. Ontario Human Rights Commission intervenes in motorcycle helmet case involving religious accomodation

   Toronto - The Commission will appear as an intervener at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on February 14 and 15, 2008, in the case of R. v. Badesha.

6. La Commission des droits de la personne intervient dans une affaire de port du casque de motocyclette mettant en jeur des mesures d'adaptation pour motifs religieux

   Toronto -La Commission comparaîtra en qualité d’intervenant devant la Cour de justice de l’Ontario, à Brampton, les 14 et 15 février 2008, dans l’affaire R. c. Badesha.

7. Submission of the Ontario Human Rights Commission to the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario regarding the draft policies relating to establishing and ending physician-patient relationships

   February 2008 - The Commission’s concerns focus on the draft policy’s handling of discretionary decisions made by doctors in accepting patients, and in provision of care. As currently stands, the draft policy may in fact lead to confusion and to human rights complaints, in that physicians may see it as condoning practices that the Commission views as discriminatory.

8. Submission of the Ontario Human Rights Commission to the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario Regarding the draft policy, "Physicians and the Ontario Human Rights Code"

   February 2008 - The draft policy raises a number of new concerns. The following pages detail the Commission’s concerns and provide suggestions for how to address them. We hope that our comments assist the College in providing greater clarity and ensuring that physicians have correct and sufficient information about their obligations under the Code.

9. Mémoire de la Commission ontarienne des droits de la personne à l'attention de l'Ordre des médecins et chirurgiens de l'Ontario au sujet de l'ébauche de politique initiulée « Pysicians and the Ontario Human Rights Code »

   Février 2008 - L’ébauche de politique soulève un certain nombre de nouvelles préoccupations. Les pages suivantes décrivent les préoccupations de la Commission et proposent des solutions pour y répondre. Nous espérons que nos commentaires aideront l’Ordre à établir des politiques plus claires et à fournir aux médecins et chirurgiens des renseignements corrects et suffisants au sujet de leurs obligations en vertu du Code.

10. Commission corrects media reports involving York University human rights complaint

    Toronto - Some media have recently commented incorrectly that the Ontario Human Rights Commission has made a “ruling” on a complaint involving York University and the accommodation of religious days of observance.
