    Toronto - Par la présente, je vous fais part de l'inquiétude que m'ont procurées les paroles récentes de l'honorable Irwin Cotler recommandant instamment aux provinces d'autoriser les fonctionnaires publics, habilités à effectuer des cérémonies de mariage, à refuser ce service aux couples du même sexe. Comme vous le savez, la Commission ontarienne des droits de la personne (la « Commission ») est intervenue dans le renvoi sur les mariages de couples du même sexe devant la Cour suprême du Canada afin de protéger le droit au mariage des homosexuels et lesbiennes du Canada. À cet égard, la Commission a endossé l'argument du procureur général du Canada selon lequel le fait d'exiger d'un représentant religieux qu'il effectue une cérémonie de mariage contraire à ses croyances religieuses sur le mariage constituerait une violation du paragraphe 2 (a) de la Charte des droits et libertés (la « Charte »).

    Part of our work with police and security services is raising awareness of the need to accommodate different groups. As a result of our involvement of in one case, Sikhs who wish to enter a Toronto courthouse wearing a kirpan (stylized representation of a sword) now face fewer barriers according to a May 2012 settlement with the Toronto Police Service (TPS), the Toronto Police Services Board and the Ministry of the Attorney General.
