Dear Friends,
I am excited to have the opportunity to share with you the results of the Ontario Human Rights Commission’s (the “Commission”) groundbreaking project on discrimination on family status. The project is the first in Canada to examine the human rights implications of the barriers faced by families who are caring for children, aging parents or relatives, and family members with disabilities.
I will be travelling to four Ontario communities to share what we have heard, and to explain the rights and responsibilities under the Human Rights Code of families with caregiving responsibilities, employers, landlords and service providers. I am very pleased to be able to invite you to join us at your Family Status Report and Policy Briefings being held in Guelph, Thunder Bay, Ottawa, and Toronto.
In addition, over the next few months, the Commission will be speaking with people across the province about the future work of the Commission. The Commission will hold the first of these Strategic Planning Sessions following the Family Status Briefings in Thunder Bay, Ottawa, and Toronto. You will be notified of additional sessions and other opportunities to take part in the discussion. We encourage you to contribute.
Please see the attached schedule for dates and locations. Your organization may send two representatives to any of the events. Your organization may, if desired send representatives to more than one event.
